Anti-malaria drug leaflets anger neighbors along McGregor Avenue

People are very angry after their neighborhood is covered with hate messages. Anti-epidemic leaflets were found at many houses along McGregor Avenue.

While there may have been a caricature on the fliers, the neighbors were deeply saddened.

You don’t have to be Jewish to insult what someone has drawn and thrown at properties along McGregor Blvd. But, a Rabbi wants to give prayer and love to the person responsible for this.

Someone who took the time to write those words and draw pictures on these pieces of paper, knew it would cause profound pain to those on the receiving side.

Carolyn Gora is a Jewish community member and lives on McGregor Blvd. “It was just what it said, it was horrible, and for me it reminded me of what happened in Nazi Germany,” Gora said.

For Gora, being Jewish brought her to the face of hatred. She found the flyer in her driveway on Thursday night while walking her dog. “I thought it was just another flyer to have someone, you know, pressure clean my house. But when I opened it, I couldn’t believe it,” said Gora.

Fort Myers is not only Gora’s home, but also her safe place.

“Saying something like anti-Semitism is a human right? It’s disgusting,” said Gora.

But, what many believe is human rights is education. And Rabbi Nicole Luna of Beth El Temple says that the person who took the time to write these words and paint this picture needs some of that education.

“I hope they will have an open education, and most of all, love will always be stronger than hate,” said Rabbi Luna.

Love can come through prayer. “The prayer that came to our mind was our Sim Shalom prayer asking God for peace,” said Rabbi Luna.

In the 77 years after the fall of Nazi Germany, anti-Semitism is on the rise in America.

“It could be the start of something I don’t want to see,” Gora said.

Currently, Fort Myers police say there is no evidence of any crime, other than littering.

Some may wonder why a Whoppi Goldberg face? Celebrities recently said the Holocaust was not motivated by race. That is not the situation.
