Anti-abortion opponent in viral video is not a firefighter: FDNY

A viral video of an anti-abortion activist in FDNY garb yelling outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral over the weekend is not a member of the city’s fire department, a department spokesman said Monday.

“Video circulating from a protest in Manhattan over the weekend shows a person wearing an FDNY sweatshirt. The person in the video is not a member of the FDNY,” Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Frank Dwyer said.

Video surfaced Sunday shows the man yelling at pro-choice protesters from the steps of the church: “I am the people!

When the clip circulated, social media investigators mistook the man for a senior member of the department, a mistake that prompted the agency’s official rebuttal Monday morning.

“The comments made do not represent the views of the FDNY. The matter is being investigated,” added Dwyer.
