Angelina Jolie was escorted to safety amid an air raid siren during a visit to the Ukrainian city of Lviv

Footage has emerged showing Angelina Jolie being escorted to safety after an air raid siren went off during her visit to the Ukrainian city of Lviv.

Lviv has been attacked by Vladimir Putin’s army in recent weeks. Earlier this month, at least seven people died in a Russian missile attack on the western city.

While Jolie, a UN special envoy who has been doing humanitarian work for years, was visiting an emergency shelter on Saturday (April 30), an air raid siren went off and the actor was off quickly with an entourage before getting into a car.

Jolie waved at the camera once and said, “I’m fine.”

Lviv regional governor Maksym Kozytsky said Jolie came to speak to displaced people who have found refuge in Lviv, including children being treated for injuries sustained in the rocket attack on Kramatorsk train station in early April.

“She was very touched [the children’s] stories,” Kozytsky wrote on social media. “One girl was even able to privately tell Jolie about a dream she had.”

He said Jolie also attended a boarding school where she spoke to students and took photos with them.

Earlier this week, Jolie was seen drinking coffee and signing autographs in Lviv.

The details of Jolie’s visit to Ukraine are not known, but in February she posted on social media: “Like many of you, I pray for the people of Ukraine. My focus, along with my @refugees colleagues, is to ensure that everything is done to ensure the protection and basic human rights of displaced people and refugees in the region.

“We have already seen reports of casualties and people fleeing their homes to safety.

“It is too early to know what will happen, but the importance of this moment – for the people of Ukraine and for the international rule of law – cannot be overstated.”

Jolie has visited other war zones during her humanitarian work. Last month she visited Yemen to help refugees from the country’s ongoing civil war. She visited Yemeni families, including displaced people and refugees, to hear directly from them how the conflict has impacted their lives.

In 2011, Jolie visited western Mosul less than a year after the city was liberated from Isis forces.
