ANDY ROBERTSON revealed he’s had lighters thrown at him by Benfica fans – but hopes it ‘helps them quit smoking’.
Fiery home fans were furious when Ex-Porto winger Luis Diaz clamped a 3-1 victory for the Reds late in this Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Aware of the anger he felt towards Portugal star Diaz, Robertson told BT Sport: ‘You weren’t very happy were you?
“A whole bunch of lighters[were]thrown at me so maybe quitting smoking will help them – take the positive!
“But we’ve seen it a lot – people get hit.
“Luckily, they (the lighters) were all very close, but none of them hit me.
“It’s tough when you (the opponent) score so late in a game. I understand that.
“But you should try not to throw things on the field because it can hurt people.
“I was just trying to take the corner and get out of there as quickly as possible.
“Luckily it was at the end of the game.”
Jurgen Klopp’s men are favorites to reach the last four after clawing a deserved two-goal lead in Lisbon.
Ibrahima Konate’s header and Sadio Mane’s fatal punch were thwarted Liverpool‘s control in the first half.
Reported that Manchester United are targeting Darwin Nunez punished Konate’s mistake to cut the lead, but Diaz scored in the 88th minute.
