Amy Slaton Halterman’s gender reveal party video shows her guests guessing a baby’s gender by writing their initials next to a “Girl” or “Boy” column on a piece of paper (via YouTube). Then she put her initials in the “Daughter” column. Little by little, the table was filled, with the column “Girls” receiving the most votes.
Then comes the big reveal – this comes as a surprise to everyone. Sitting in the kitchen decorated with pink and blue stripes, Amy was given an oversized card to open. She holds it in front of the camera so she can’t see the message inside. “It’s a …” she said, before flipping the card. The guests read the news aloud, exclaiming with joy: “Boy.”
Instead of shouting with excitement, Amy frowned and checked the card. Then she said, “What the hell is that?” and let out a half laugh, half cry. “I’ve always wanted a girl,” she said. Then, hoping she was being pranked, she added, “You’re all messing with me.” After a while, it became clear to her that she was indeed expecting a brother for 1-year-old Gage. Moments later, Amy was on the phone with her sister Tammy. She revealed both the baby’s gender and the name she and her husband chose – John Allen, known as “John-Boy” for short. The guests seemed less than impressed. “I don’t call him John-Boy!” call an off-screen voice.
