Amy Schumer revealed she’s still thinking about the Oscars moment when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock “all four thoughts.”
The comedian explained that she was getting her legs made up in her trailer when the incident happened and was watching it on a live feed.
“The actual show was fun,” Schumer said while speaking at the Executive Luncheon for the Jewish Family Service in Denver on Monday, April 4. “Since then, one in four thoughts is still that Will Smith beat Chris Rock at the Oscars.”
Schumer was quick to bring up the Oscars during a Q&A session with comedian Jaye McBride at the Denver Convention Center, explaining that she is close to Chris Rock and Questlove, who were dealing with the aftermath of the slap on stage.
“I felt really bad for these two beautiful people,” she said, referring to Rock and Questlove, adding that she’s been a Smith fan “forever.”
“To see all of a sudden, ‘Daddy gets mad and hits you’ … so sad,” she said.
Smith has since resigned from The Academy.
Schumer was still shocked by the incident.
McBride later asked Schumer who her favorite comedian was, and she said she had to reconsider her answers to name her “favourite comedian who hasn’t sexually assaulted anyone.”
Dave Chappelle was one of the few who did, although Schumer said she wishes “he would move forward in some way when it comes to certain groups of women, trans women — and only women.”
Schumer also spoke about her baby son, Gene, at the event. “We’re raising Gene to be a nice Jewish boy,” Schumer said. “We got a Christmas tree, but … he’ll just think Jesus was a nice guy.”
