Among Us is one of the most popular games in recent memory. Now Innersloth has announced the long-rumored VR mode to make killing your friends even more intense than ever.
Among Us was one of the most unexpected hits of the last decade, taking the gaming world by storm and revolutionizing multiplayer gaming. Sessions where you fool and murder your friends became a weekly staple, especially when we were all stuck at home.
After gaining popularity in 2020, Among Us even inspired a number of similar games and modes. Gaming giant Fortnite even dropped Imposter mode, which borrowed heavily from the formula Innersloth perfected.
But for all its success, fans have kept demanding that the game come out in VR. Thankfully, her wishes were granted during The Game Awards 2021.
A trailer was released during the awards show announcing that Among Us is getting a VR overhaul, allowing players to experience the game from a first-person perspective. The Sort clip showed a crew member manually completing a task before being stalked by a sneaky con artist.
Check it out below:
in one blog entrydevelopers Innersloth revealed that Among Us VR will feature the Skeld, the original map that helped bring the game into the mainstream. In order to take full advantage of the VR hardware, the ship will be realized in 3D.
The structure will follow the same format that fans know and love. Only this time, the emergency sessions are taking place in person and not behind the convenience of a chat screen.
Quests will be familiar to long-time players, but with an extra layer of interactivity thanks to the new perspective. And of course, betrayal becomes even more personal when you target your victim before eliminating them.
Development of the new version will be handled by Schell Games, best known for I Expect You To Die. In a press release, CEO Jesse Schell said, “There’s a lot to love about Among Us, and this partnership represents a perfect combination of the original game’s resounding success and the boom in the virtual reality ecosystem.”
VR is being developed for Among Us Steam VR, PlayStation VR and MetaQuest 2which means players on different platforms can experience the game.
It’s worth noting that Among Us VR will not be compatible with the original version and will be sold as a completely separate game.
Unfortunately, the developers haven’t gone into details about the release date just yet, but players can expect an update sometime in 2022.
What we do know is that we can’t wait to dive back into the slightly offended world of Among Us and lie to our friends in a whole new way.
