All WhatsApp users warned about SECRET hack that allows anyone to recover deleted text

WHATSAPP users have been warned to stay away from an app that can retrieve deleted messages.

This app has been installed over 50 million times worryingly but one report claims that it could be a data breach.

Called WAMR in the Google Play Store, the creators claim the tool “can recover text messages and any media attachments”.

One of its appeals is its ability to keep messages that friends send but later decide to delete.

It also notifies you when someone deletes a message.

“How annoying is it when your friends delete their messages before you can see them?” said app description.

“Curiosity took over.”

This is not only for WhatsApp but also possible from other messaging services like Facebook Messenger.

Of course, WhatsApp uses encryption to protect data so the app can’t really get back such old messages.

However, there is one technique around – notification history.

So instead, the app looks at all the message notifications your phone has pinged and retrieves data from that.

As such, it won’t be able to get everything back – and it won’t work on any messages before you download WAMR, for example.

Although the application is not malicious, it poses a privacy risk because of the permissions it requests, Information Security Report report.

This includes the ability to read content on your USB storage, such as photos and other media.

A lot of apps ask for data permissions but given the sensitivity of private message security, experts say this is a bit too risky.
