FANS of ITV drama Vera couldn’t stop complaining about the quality of Geordie’s voice on the beloved crime show.
The unconventional detective returned to our screens this month after the Covid pandemic caused filming delays.
Super fans were super excited to be stuck in figuring out who killed Jim Tullman.
But that excitement quickly died down when they couldn’t overcome the efforts of the actors with the northeastern accent – Geordie -.
“There was a murder on the #Vera. Someone murdered geordie voice,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
Another indignant: “I never watched the #Vera TV show but just clicked on it by accident. I watched it for 5 minutes and was about to shut down but need to know – Brenda Blethyn what voice is she trying to say? anywhere in NE REALLY has that accent, cannie lad?”
And a third added: “I’m sure the Young Mother auditioned for Geordie at the start of #Vera, it sounds like she’s completely from Leeds now! The voice is crap.”
Northumberland detective Vera Stanhope is played by Academy Award-nominated actress Brenda Blethyn.
The show was filmed at key locations across Northumberland, including Blyth and Whitley Bay.
Other sites include Alnmouth, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and Tyne Bridge, the Baltic Center for Contemporary Art, and the Collingwood Memorial in Tynemouth.
But there’s one key spot where Brenda isn’t a big fan.
The actress talked about how they were filming in a dump for Vera, which of course proved to be very difficult.
They did, however, film in much more pleasant locations, such as Holy Island.
“Other glorious sites include Holy Island, Lindisfarne and the Spanish City in Whitley Bay, which have now been beautifully refurbished,” said the 74-year-old actress.
“We are still amazed by the incredible locations available for us to film.”
She added: “I can honestly say I love the beauty of Northumberland, whether it’s the sea, the landscape, the moors or the city. So great.”
There are a total of five episodes for series 11.
However, the series was split into two halves due to the Covid pandemic causing filming delays.
