LONDON (Reuters) – British actor Tom Holland has said he will play legendary movie star Fred Astaire in the upcoming Sony biopic, who is best remembered for dancing and singing with Ginger Rogers in several musicals, including “Top Hat” and “Swing Time”.
Renowned as one of the greatest dancers of all time, Astaire enjoyed a career spanning seven decades in film and theater on Broadway and the West End.
“I am playing Fred Astaire. The script was included a week ago. I have not read it. They didn’t give it to me,” Holland said.
“Amy Pascal has the script,” he said, referring to the Spider-Man producer Pascal. “She FaceTimed me before. I was in the tub and we had a lovely FaceTime. ”
Holland was speaking at a call for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” which he attended with his co-star Zendaya in London on Sunday. Two people are dating.
The pair talk about their love for what they call the Spider-Man family. Zendaya, who plays Mary Jane in the film, said she was delighted to meet Holland while making the film.
The pair are dating in real life as well as in the latest big-screen story revolving around Spider-Man’s true identity revealed for the first time.
“One of the most special parts of all of this was getting to meet Tom Holland. So I’m incredibly grateful to ‘Spider-Man’ for that. And he’s obviously very talented and a lovely person,” said Zendaya.
Holland, 25, is filming his third Spider-Man movie and talks about the past six years, saying Spider-Man has been such an important part of his life that he can’t remember which period of time. before playing this role.
The film has been successful at the UK box office before, but Holland said the pandemic means the pressure for the film to succeed is different this year.
“People may not feel comfortable going to the theater and that’s okay, if that’s your prerogative, I’ll support that,” he said.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” hits UK theaters on December 15.
