A Houston man with a chronic illness calls to have his front yard fixed after a truck wreck in west Houston

“I’m not saying anything about cars: regular cars or trucks, but not 18-wheelers. I’m sorry. No 18 wheels. It’s too hard,” Garcia said.
According to Garcia, the trucks come through the neighborhood to pick up wholesale carpets for a nearby factory and use his front yard to get back on the street.
Garcia lives with a serious stomach condition that requires multiple surgeries and multiple medications, as well as trips to and from the hospital. His neighbors contacted ABC13 to help him solve the problem.
“I didn’t know how bad it was until I saw the video. So my family and I were concerned. He can’t handle it. He just can’t,” explained Ana Rodriguez.
At one point, Garcia claims that when he confronted a driver, he told Garcia to return to Mexico and another driver told him to get his gun after words were exchanged between the two men.
ABC13 was there when Garcia spoke to the owner of Rug Selection, LLC. The owner said in an email that his problem was with the shipping company.
To show good faith, the owner said the company would be willing to redesign the front of the driveway at their expense.
“I’m estimating less than $1,000. If the gentleman is willing to take $1,000 and fix it himself, I’ll be happy to write him a check. Otherwise, we’ll call a driveway repair company and fix it,” the owner said.
Garcia plans to discuss all of this with his wife and decide what to do next in terms of repairs. The hope is that drivers will change their turning routes once the repairs are complete so they don’t damage Garcia’s yard again.
