A Tennessee couple got a sweet surprise when they woke up to find a strange dog curled up in bed with them.

Jimmy and Julie Johnson’s unexpected guest walked in through a back door accidentally left open and joined them for the night.

“I rolled onto my side of the bed and said, ‘No, no, no, that’s not our dog,'” Ms Johnson said of how she found the dog when she woke up.

So she went to Facebook and posted a message about a missing dog, and someone recognized her new friend as Nala.

“We received a Facebook message saying, ‘Hey, this is my dog. I’ll be there in a few minutes, what’s your address?’” she added.

Ms Johnson says the owner sent photos of the dog as proof.

“She sent me Christmas pictures and all kinds of photos with her dogs,” she said.

The Johnsons found the dog had traveled two miles before deciding to settle in with them for the night.

“In fact, I was still in bed snuggling up to Nala when her mom walked in,” Jimmy Johnson said.

Nala’s owner took to Facebook to share details of her dog’s adventure.

“Our super-friendly pooch, Nala, set an all-time record for ignoring personal space, adding another trick to her long list of Houdini actions. She slipped out of her collar while out for a walk yesterday, ran down the street to a neighbor’s house, somehow managed to get into their house and climbed into bed with them in the middle of the night,” wrote Cris Hawkins.

“The wife and her husband have 3 dogs of their own who all sleep in the bed with them. None of their dogs responded to a random dog that climbed into bed with them, and the couple didn’t even realize it wasn’t their dog that was in bed with them until the sun came up.”
