A British official says Putin ‘mirroring’ Nazis must meet the same fate

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his generals “reflect” the fascism and tyranny of Hitler’s Nazis — and must suffer the same fate, Britain’s defense secretary said on Monday.

Ben Wallace, the British equivalent of the US Secretary of State, made the comparison while denouncing the “absurdity” of Monday’s bombastic Victory Parade in Moscow, at which Putin claimed he was defending his “motherland” from the Nazis.

“By invading Ukraine, Putin and his inner circle of generals are now mirroring the fascism and tyranny of 77 years ago and repeating the mistakes of the totalitarian regime of the last century,” Wallace said.

“Their fate must surely be the same, too,” he said, recalling how Hitler’s Nazis either ended World War II dead or faced the Nuremberg Trials for their atrocities.

Wallace, himself a former soldier, accused Russian generals of being “absolutely complicit in Putin’s kidnapping of their ancestors’ proud history, defending themselves against a ruthless invasion” and “fending off fascism”.

“For them and Putin there can be no victory day, only shame and certainly defeat in Ukraine.”

He also said that “all professional soldiers should be appalled at the behavior of the Russian army.”

“Not only are they involved in an illegal invasion and war crimes, but their top brass have disappointed their own base to the point that they should be court-martialed,” he said.

Wallace too retweeted a highly productive video Ukraine shared early Monday as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised a new victory for his nation, just like the one against Nazi Germany 77 years earlier.

“We will never forget what our ancestors did in World War II,” said Zelenskyy.

“We won then, we will win now,” he said, promising that “there will soon be two days of victories in Ukraine.”
