A 19-year-old teenager was struck by a car and killed while crossing Reed Road near Martin Luther King Boulevard

The accident happened around 11:52 a.m. when the teenager was crossing Martin Luther King Boulevard with another pedestrian, police say.
A black Chevy Cruze was heading north and killed the 19-year-old. The teenager died at the scene.
The 20-year-old driver continued driving and crashed into a lamppost, causing the vehicle to catch fire with a 2-year-old in the back seat.
Miller said it was unclear whether speed or alcohol played a role in the accident.
The driver of the Chevy was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and the child was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital for evaluation.
