A $1 million federal funding for Houston’s Selena Quintanilla Perez Park in the Port of Denver has been announced

The park has been in the same location, 6402 Market Street, since 1945.

Originally known as Denver Harbor Park, it was renamed in honor of the Tejano music star in 1995, less than a year after her assassination in Corpus Christi.
The Houston Chronicle says the park’s renovation will include new playgrounds, swing sets, a new parking lot and repaired trail, new lighting and tables, benches, and drinking fountains.
A new soccer field expands to 100 yards and gets new goalposts for a league using the field, along with a new backstop and an improved area for T-ball. Playgrounds will be divided into two units to accommodate different age groups.

If budget allows, new toilet facilities and concession building upgrades will also be made.
The forthcoming transformation will be the most recent transformation of the park and surrounding areas. The most recent renovation was made at the Denver Harbor Pool.
