One person was killed and six injured when a shooting broke out near a baseball field in a Chicago park Tuesday night, authorities said.
The shooting erupted around 7:45 p.m. in Washington Park on the city’s south side, after two feuding groups had a “personal altercation,” Chicago Deputy Police Chief Fred Melean said at a news conference.
The victims were all adults, and according to Melean, no innocent bystanders appeared to have been caught in the crossfire.
Filming took place two days before UniverSoul Circus was due to start a 12-date residency at the park.
Officials told families they need not worry about gun violence if they attend Thursday night’s performance.
“When the circus is in operation they have more security there, we have staff patrolling the park so it’s safe to enter the circus,” advised Melean.
Police are offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the killer and other shooters.
According to police statistics, Chicago had recorded 469 homicides so far in 2022, down 15% from the same time last year.
