Flood warnings are in place for much of the South West, around Wolverhampton, Leeds, Norwich and Eastbourne.
Frost and fog are set for the weekend, with freezing fog blanketing England and Wales, a spokesman for The Met Office said.
The forecaster told The Sun: “We’ve seen quite a bit more than the beginning of the month average in terms of rainfall, we’re running at about 30% of average rainfall – we’d normally expect at that value.
“But building high pressure and fog will be the main problem.
“Looks pretty nice around midweek, and Wednesday can be quite sunny – but the risk of freezing fog on Thursday and Friday is increasing.
“So it’s fog with sub-freezing temperatures and that could cause some disruption to travel and aviation, so there could be some disruption at airports for example.
“But there’s no particularly nasty snow or wind.”
