14-year-old boy shot dead while taking out garbage in Texas

A 14-year-old boy was taking out the trash in Texas when he was shot and injured Tuesday night, police said.
The teenager was shot in the thigh around 5:15 p.m. outside his family’s home in the Dunbrook Park Lane area of suburban Houston, news channel KPRC reported.
After the shot, the victim ran through the neighborhood and managed to jump over a woman’s fence to call for help, police officers said.
The unnamed victim was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she underwent surgery.
There was initially no information about the condition of the boy.
A sheriff’s detective told reporters during a briefing that the incident happened just 31 seconds after he went to the trash cans near River Knoll and Bear Meadow.

The investigators called to the scene searched the area and are said to have secured two bullet casings.
They were trying to determine if the shots were accidental or if the 14-year-old was the shooter’s intended target.
According to ABC13, police planned to question the teenager about the shooting after his operation.

Ed Gonzalez, Harris County Sheriff took to Twitter to ask residents in the area to check their surveillance footage for suspicious activity at the time of the shooting.
