1,300-pound disco ball ready to shine on Lincoln Center Plaza

It was early afternoon, but Saturday Night Fever was in the air.

Passers-by outside Lincoln Center on Saturday couldn’t help but be mesmerized by a £1,300 disco ball that will be front and center when its famous space is temporarily transformed into what’s been dubbed the ‘largest outdoor dance floor’ of the city.

The 10-foot diameter disco ball will be on display at The Oasis on Josie Robertson Plaza from June 1 through August 14.

On May 21, 2022, a giant disco ball was erected at Lincoln Center.

“I’ll definitely be back when everything is set up,” said Nick DeLio, 56. “I wouldn’t call myself a dancer, but I want to be a part of it. It’s going to be great when they hit it with the lights – probably illuminating the whole place.”

Grethe Winther, 78, of Washington, DC, was on her way to the Metropolitan Opera House when she had to stop to photograph the giant disco ball.

“It’s good that they’re offering something that so many people enjoy,” she said.
