1 dead after Amtrak train collision in Johnston County, police say

KENLY, NC (WNCN) — One person died after being hit by an Amtrak passenger train in Kenly Friday night, police said.
The incident was reported just after 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Corbett Avenue and Edgerton Street, according to Kenly Police Chief Joshua Gibson.
An adult on the tracks was struck by southbound Amtrak train 53, which Gibson and Amtrak officials said was en route to Sanford.
Amtrak officials said none of the 462 passengers on board or crew members were injured.
At 10:30 p.m. the train was still stopped in Kenly, but Gibson said it was due to depart at 11:00 p.m
No further information was released by Kenly Police.
